Magdalena Pytlak: On the margins of literary field. Comment on the Bibliography of literary translations from Bulgarian to Polish in 2014 Download Rozwiń
Original Title: Na obrzeżach pola literackiego. Komentarz do Bibliografii przekładów literatury bułgarskiej w Polsce w 2014 roku / В покрайните на литературното поле. Kоментар върху библиографията на преводи на българската литература в Полша през 2014 г. Author Name: Magdalena Pytlak, Uniwersytet Jagielloński, Instytut Filologii Słowiańskiej, magdalena.pytlak@uj.edu.pl. Language: Polish. Issue: 6 (2)/2015. Page Range: 15-26. Ключови думи: литературен превод, поле на Пиер Бурдие, политика на превода, българска литература в Полша. Key words: literary translation, Bourdieu’s field, politics of translation, Bulgarian literature in Poland.
Summary: The paper is a comment on the Bibliography of literary translations from Bulgarian to Polish in 2014. The author of this article focuses on two translations that may be considered as completed — that is, a book with short stories Lomski razkazi (Lom stories) by Emil Andreev and a selection Antologia literatury bułgarskiej w przekładzie Hanny Karpińskiej (Anthology of Bulgarian Literature in translation of Hanna Karpinska). The analysis uses the concept of field and actors/institutions in the literary field by the French sociologist, Pierre Bourdieu. The analysis tries to reveal mechanisms beyond the translation process — decision on what is translated (author and piece), cooperation with publishers, but also official cultural policy of Bulgaria. It also shows differences between book and magazine publications in the context of literary filed (in. al. reading audience, literary prizes).

Komentarz do bibliografii przekładów w 2014 roku / O překladech polské literatury v České republice a české v Polsku Komentovaná bibliografie za 2014 rok. Author Name: Dorota Żygadło‑Czopnik, Uniwersytet Wrocławski, Wydział Filologiczny, Instytut Filologii Słowiańskiej, Zakład Bohemistyki, zydlo1@wp.pl. Language: Polish. Issue: 6 (2)/2015. Page Range: 89-108. Klíčová slova: komentář, bibliografie, překlad, polská a česká literatura. Key words: commentary, bibliography, translation, Polish and Czech literature.
Resume: Historie česko‑polských vztahů je dlouhá. Rok 1989 nesporně přinesl epochální změnu i z hlediska česko‑polských vztahů. Teprve tehdy se Češi a Poláci stali svéprávnými sousedy. Územní spory se neobnovily, obě země navíc pojily vzájemné sympatie kulturních i politických elit. Česko‑polské vztahy jsou nyní nejlepší za posledních tisíc let. Tato studie, ač rozsahem nevelká, usiluje podat ucelený obraz vzájemných kulturních a jazykových vztahů obou národů za 2014 rok. Lze ji tedy hodnotit jako cenný příspěvek k této problematice. Bibliografie je rozdělena do dvou části, z nichž první uvádí Bibliografia przekładów literatury polskiej w Czechach w 2014 roku a druhá Bibliografia przekładów literatury czeskiej w Polsce w 2014 roku, obě části obsahují překladovou literaturu. Zpracovaná bibliografie není výhradně věnována knihám, zahrnuje také časopisy i internetové stránky. Konečným záměrem celého projektu je prostřednictvím serii „Przekłady Literatur Słowiańskich” poskytnout odborné i laické veřejnosti vyčerpávající seznam publikací — překladů české a polské literatury za rok 2014 vydaných na území České republiky a Polska.
Summary: The history of Polish‑Czech dealings is long. There is no doubt that the year 1989 brought epochal changes in Polish‑Czech relations. Only then did the Czechs and Poles become rightful neighbours. Territorial disputes are a nonissue and the two countries are connected to each other with mutual affection of the cultural and political elite. Czech‑Polish relations are the best they have been in over a thousand years. This publication, although small in scale, is intended to provide a full picture of the cultural and linguistic relationship between the two nations for the year 2014. It can be viewed as a valuable contribution to this issue. The bibliography is divided into two parts, where the first includes, The bibliography of the translated works of Polish literature in the Czech Republic in 2014, and the second one includes, The bibliography of the translated works of Czech literature in Poland in 2014. Both parts include translated literature. The bibliography is devoted not only to books, but also takes into account periodicals and websites. The ultimate goal of the whole project was to provide both the experts and readers, through the series „Slavic Literature Translations”, with a comprehensive list of translated works of Polish and Czech literature published in Poland and the Czech Republic in the year 2014.

Cyryla i Metodego w Skopju, Wydział Filologiczny „Blaže Koneski”, Katedra Slawistyki, lidkapol@yahoo.com. Language: Polish. Issue: 6 (2)/2015. Page Range: 115-119. Клучни зборови: проза, современа, превод, издавачи, стил. Key words: novels, publishers, translating, colloquialisms.
Резиме: Во овој коментар се разработуваат причините и мотивациите за изборот на делата, при што се дава краток осврт на стилот застапен во тие дела, како и на допирните точки со македонската литература. Даден е и опис на работата на издавачките куќи кои се решаваат да издадат дела од полската литература. Проблемите во преведувањето произлегуваат од културните разлики, а резултатот е слика на современото полско општество во кое има доволно критична мисла, но и вплетена историја како надоврзување на традицијата.
Summary: This commentary conserns the reasons and motivation for choosing particular novels to be translated into Macedonian. A short review of their style is given, as well as the common ground with the Macedonian literature. We describe the way of the working of the publishing houses which have decided to publish Polish literature. Problems in translation turn out to be of a cultural nature, concerning the differences and, as a result, the reader is presented with the picture of contemporary Polish society, which is overwhelmed by critical thinking, but still deals with the history as a way to further develop the tradition.

Uvažuje o slovenských dielach a ich recepcii v poľskom horizonte čitateľov. Podrobne analyzuje preklady, ktoré v poľskom priestore plnia úlohu mediácie, podporujú porozumenie a pochopenie medzi dvoma kultúrami patriacimi ku spoločnému stredoeurópskemu kruhu. Posledné poľské preklady slovenskej súčasnej literatúry, medzi ktoré patria prózy Pavla Rankova, Pavla Vilikovského a eseje Rudolfa Chmela, dopĺňajú v poľskom priestore znalosť slovenskej kultúry, literatury a dejín. Original Title: Analiza transferu archaizmów w słowackim tłumaczeniu Czerwonego błazna Aleksandra Błażejowskiego. Author Name: Zuzana Pojezdalova, Univerzita Komenskeho v Bratislave, Filozoficka fakulta, Katedra slovanskych filologii, zuzana.pojezdalova@gmail.com. Language: Polish. Issue: 6 (2)/2015. Page Range: 171-177. Kľúčové slová: zastarané slová, archaizmy, kompenzácia, kvalifikátor. Key words: obsolete words, archaisms, compensation, qualifier.
Abstract: The time span that divides the novel Czerwony Błazen (Red Clown) written by Aleksander Błażejowski, from the Slovak translation by Tomáš Horváth, is 89 years. The original version contains several archaic features on multiple levels. This article concerns with the analysis of the archaic features solely on the lexical level. The aim of the analysis is to find out if the translator has tried to maintain the archaic character of the novel (archaic from today’s point of view). There are several historical oddities in the novel (Dorożka). In the article, there are examples of the words that contemporary Polish lexicography considers archaic, even though the Dictionary of Warsaw, compiled in the same period as the novel Red Clown, recognizes the same words as neutral. All those archaic examples were substituted by neutral Slovak words by Tomáš Horváth. On the other hand, the translator used the method of compensation — where the Polish original text contains neutral words, in the Slovak translation archaic Slovak expressions were used. It is clearly visible that the translator tends to choose bookish expressions (skanúť, skyva chleba), which leads to the theory that he has planned to achieve the impression of an archaic text by using the bookish expressions. Nevertheless, the translator has not been consistent and his translation strategy is violated by informal, spoken words at unsuitable places.

Author Name: Anna Muszyńska‑Vizintin, Uniwersytet Śląski, Instytut Filologii Słowiańskiej, melvien@poczta.fm. Language: Polish. Issue: 6 (2)/2015. Page Range: 191-204. Ključne besede: obrobne kulture, dominantne kulture, prevodi leta 2014, prevajalske izbire, medkulturni dialog. Key words: peripheral cultures, dominant cultures, translations in 2014, translation choices, intercultural dialogue.
„Lirikon21”, „Poetikon”, „Locutio” in „Literatura”. Večino prevodov so objavile najbolj poznane in prestižne slovenske založbe, kot so npr. Mladinska knjiga, Cankarjeva založba, Celjska Mohorjeva Družba in Beletrina. Vredna pozornosti pa je dodelitev prestižne nagrade za najboljšega mladega prevajalca leta 2014 Staši Pavlovič za njen prvi knjižni prevod Mercedes‑Benz: iz pisem Hrabalu Pawła Huelleja. Na podlagi obravnavanih podatkov se lahko opazi, da poljska kultura postaja vedno bolj zanimiva za Slovence, za kar (v okviru medkulturnega dialoga) prispevajo prevajalci, predvsem pa njihovi odlični prevodi.
Summary: In 2014, 8 Polish authors’ books were translated and published in Slovenia, among which the dominant literary genre was prose: 5 novels written by authors belonging to different generations (Lem, Myśliwski, Huelle, Tokarczuk, Franczak), 2 books on religious topics (on John Paul II and Jerzy Popiełuszko), and a selection of poems by the Polish Nobel Prize winner Wisława Szymborska. Polish literature was also quite present in literary magazines such as „Lirikon21”, „Poetikon”, „Locutio” and „Literatura”. Most of the translations have been published by the most famous and prestigious Slovenian publishers such as Mladinska knjiga, Cankarjeva založba, Celjska Mohorjeva Družba and Beletrina. It is worthy to note that the prestigious award for the best young translator in 2014 was assigned to Staša Pavlović for her first translation, that is, Pawel Huelle’s Mercedes Benz: From Letters to Hrabal. On the basis of the data presented, it can be seen that Polish literature is becoming increasingly popular among Slovenians thanks to the translators and, especially, to their excellent translations.
